No Motivation.

I have literally at least a dozen ideas in my head, and i don't feel like actually MAKING them.
The snow is pretty around here! But it snowed almost steadily all day.
Example of stupid drivers: I live on a hill, in fact the entire neighborhood i live in is full of hills. On my way to work i have to go down several hills, and the best of these hills (the one that is the most well taken care of, new blacktop, always salted and plowed in the winter, etc) is where this happened. There was a car about 6 cars in front of me. At 7:10 am this is the norm. So this car is "leading the parade" (that thing that when my dad taught me to drive about 11 years ago, told me to never do!). This car is going less than 5 miles and hour. That's right! My odometer wasn't even REGISTERING SPEED!! The road was merely wet. No snow, No ice, No cats or dogs darting across the road. Yet this car decided it was a good idea that every 10 or 15 feet he slam on the brakes!
Please..... if you live in the northern states and don't know how to drive in the snow, LIVE IN FLORIDA! or at least move somewhere flat!
Maybe I'm prejudiced because i have a car that is much like a TANK in the snow. (I love my Oldsmobile Ciera as much as i drool over the Prius) Or maybe i just had a good teacher when i learned how to drive. (I did turn 16 in October and got my license in about February, so snow driving was definitely required)

Ok enough of the rant. I'm at home now, safe from bad drivers, in my cozy little apartment.

I'd also like to comment on my experience of working at Michael's. I love it there! I have worked for Michael's before (in Indiana, PA), when i was in college. That store was my baby. It was one of the first stores with the new layout (the way all the new stores now are laid out). We built it from the ground up (granted i'm no construction worker, but we positioned shelves, filled them, labeled things, etc.). Anyways, i knew the store inside out. My apron was covered in the little pins holding up the pointer finger saying i was "Number 1" and those rocket ship pins that noted that you participated in some program they had going at the time (customer service or something). I was offered the position of Front End Supervisor at that point and had to decline because i was moving back to Pittsburgh. I tried to transfer to the Michael's that was close to my home, but they couldn't offer me the same wages, or the Front End Supervisor, or even more than 10 hrs. a week. (I was working 30 at the other store, as well as 3 other jobs on campus part time- computer lab tech, figure drawing model, and in the art buildings slide library- yes i was artsy then too)! Anyway, i decided to go back to Michael's about 9 months ago. I love helping people find things, having people ask me for opinions on the projects they want to create. Seeing the same 3 customers come in everytime i'm there just to watch my demos. ( i mean they pull up a chair and take notes even!) for me thats my thing. It makes me feel like art is my calling. (even though i went back to school for accounting and do that for a living). Its my passion.
Yes! I spend my entire pay check there and then some. But i also sell my cards at my regular job, and do pretty well sometimes. (Christmas cards alone have made me $50 already).
I'm not a demonstrater for Stampin' Up, but i've tossed around the idea. I'd love some input on how much people make doing that, and what all the benefits are (and not int he words of their website, but someone who actually does it. But i also want to know the down sides too.... (besides that you spend what you make, cause that is just a given...hehe).
I have also considered Close to My Heart stamps because they are just adoreable! and i dont have that much storage space....
So lets hear it.... what do you think about being a demonstrator!

  4. Oh my gosh, If I worked at Michael's I would be dirt poor...no kidding....I wouldn't make any money and at the end of the day I would be paying Michael's to work for them!! Way to go girl!

  5. I am a SU devoted demonstrator and I have loved every minute of it. They have such great perks like the free Level 3 set given to all demonstrators around Thanksgiving this year. If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me - I sat on the fence a long time myself before deciding to become one - and I've never looked back. Like I said, email me if you want more encouragement or support! :)

  6. I am an SU demo too but as a hobbyist and I can tell you, I make no money. I do it to get the discount and the demo since I just love showing ppl how to make paper craft, whether I get paid or not :D

I have a full time job that pays well and I also teach two classes online as my part time job. I really don't need a third job to make money. So this is literally my fun job.

I'm not sure if I can see doing this as a full time deal since everytime I make $$ I spend it. But, if your goals are different than mine, then you prob. can.

My friend is opening a scrapbook store. She asked me to help her demo there, for pay (though I don't care if she just gives me free stuff), and I'm so very excited. I can't wait!

Tag you're it... I lost my motivation some weeks ago. I got it all back now :D

  7. I loved hearing about your Michaels job. I think you have just the right attitude to love it there.

I am a demo for The Angel Company and I think it's great. I am mostly a hobbyist as we've moved around so much lately I haven't had a chance to really get a solid business going. The thing about TAC is how easy it is to be a hobbyist. I think it would be a lot of work to really make money so it really just depends on what you want from it. It's fun to think about, isn't it? Good luck!
